Sunan Ibn Majah 2252 records: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When any one of you buys a slave woman, let him say: ‘Allahumma inni as’aluka khairaha wa khaira ma jabaltaha alaihi, wa a’udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha alaihi’ (O Allah, I ask You for the goodness within her and the goodness You have made her inclined towards, and I seek refuge with You from the evil within her and the evil You have made her inclined towards). Then he should pray for blessing. And if any one of you buys a camel, he should take hold of its hump, pray for blessing, and say similar words.”
Grade: Sahih (authentic)
Here, a slave girl is treated as property in exactly the same category as a camel. This reflects Muhammad’s mindset: purchasing a woman and purchasing an animal were essentially comparable acts.
A specific supplication (dua) was recommended when buying a slave girl—to seek her “goodness” and protection from her “evil.” No such special dua or ritual is mentioned when buying a male slave.
This small but telling difference reveals that slave women were viewed not merely as property, but as objects specifically for sexual and domestic use. A camel was for labor; a slave girl was for labor and sexual pleasure.
