Suhrawardy Avenue Renamed to Gopal Mukherjee Road: The Truth of History and the Face of Islamic Separatism

Suhrawardy Avenue in Kolkata has been renamed Veer Gopal Mukherjee Road. This decision by the BJP government is hurting some people, especially the Congress and the Leftists. But in my view, this is an attempt to correct a small historical mistake.

The Suhrawardy Family: Two Sides of the Same Coin

Congress supporters are screaming that this road was not named after “Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy” but after his uncle, Dr. Hasan Suhrawardy. Hasan Suhrawardy was the first Muslim Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University and a surgeon. But is that the whole truth?

In 1932, the brave revolutionary Bina Das had fired at the British Governor. Hasan Suhrawardy caught Bina Das and handed her over to the British police. As a reward for this “loyalty,” he was given the title of ‘Sir‘, and the road in front of his house was named Suhrawardy Avenue.

Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, on the other hand, is infamous as the “Butcher of Bengal.” As the Muslim League Chief Minister during the 1946 Direct Action Day, he encouraged the massacre of Hindus. Kolkata’s streets ran red with Hindu blood. The police were locked in their barracks, and Muslim mobs were given free rein. Outsider Muslims were brought in, supplied with weapons, vehicles, and petrol.

Both Suhrawardys belonged to the same family. One handed a revolutionary over to the British; the other created the atmosphere for the massacre of lakhs of Hindus. The family’s ideology was clear — sycophancy towards the British and Muslim separatism.

Gopal Mukherjee (Gopal Patha): The Real Lion

The person after whom the road has been renamed, Gopal Mukherjee, was known as “Gopal Patha.” During the 1946 Hindu massacre, when Muslim mobs attacked Hindu areas, Gopal Patha organized a resistance to protect Hindus. Only when the counter-attack was launched against the Muslim rioters did they retreat. Because of his actions, thousands of innocent Hindus were saved. This was not aggressive communalism — it was self-defense, which every civilized society considers legitimate.

In Hindu society, such heroes have always been forgotten, while the names of aggressors continued to shine on the streets.

From an Ex-Muslim’s Perspective

I have read the Quran, Hadith, and Islamic history. The two-nation theory, the mentality of jihad, and hatred towards kafirs — these things are visible in the Suhrawardy family as well. After the creation of Pakistan, a part of the family migrated there. Indian Muslims have repeatedly been given “secular” appeasement, but the stories of Hindu victims have been suppressed.

The Congress-Left alliance has always whitewashed Islamic crimes. Nehru’s closeness to the Suhrawardy family is well known. Even today, the same old politics of appeasement continues. Renaming the road is merely a symbol. Real change will come when we read history in its full truth and reject the lies peddled in the name of “secularism.”

Conclusion

Renaming Suhrawardy Avenue is the restoration of the real India. It is about honoring heroes like Bina Das and protectors like Gopal Patha. Those who are objecting to this either do not know history or are deliberately hiding the truth.

India is a Hindu-majority country. Hindu sentiments should be respected here, without any guilt complex.

Jai Hind. Jai Gopal Patha.
