Recommendation for Sharia Law in India: Maharashtra Muslim MLA Sana Malik’s Unconstitutional Demand

Namaste, friends,

Leaving Islam was not an easy decision for me. Years of religious study, family pressure, the fear instilled by Muslim society, and the teachings of the Quran and Hadith that justify injustice against women, minorities, and critics — all of these were part of my life. But once the truth came out, staying silent became impossible.

Today, when Maharashtra’s NCP MLA Sana Malik stands in the assembly demanding Quran-based laws and Sharia, citing Pakistan as an example, my blood boils.

Sana Malik’s Statement and the Reality

Sana Malik, in the context of triple talaq and polygamy (four marriages), said that since Pakistan has turned the rules of the Quran into law, India should do the same. Later, she issued a clarification claiming she meant something else, but the video and assembly records make everything crystal clear. Being the daughter of Nawab Malik may have given her political protection, but the truth is that this statement is a direct attack on the Indian Constitution, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and women’s rights.

I want to ask Sana ji: Have you ever read the stories of those Muslim women who were thrown onto the streets overnight after being given triple talaq? Whose lives became hell because of this so-called right to four marriages?

Why cite Pakistan? What is the condition of women there? If you want an example, look directly at Afghanistan — where the punishment for zina (adultery) is stoning to death (rajm), where little girls are forcibly married to grown men, where girls are banned from education, thieves have their hands chopped off, and minorities (Hindus, Christians, Ahmadis) face oppression. All of this is inspired by the Quran and Hadith.

The True Face of Sharia: My Story

When I was a Muslim, I was taught that the Quran is the ultimate truth. Sura 4:34 gives husbands permission to beat their wives, Sura 4:3 allows four marriages, and daughters receive only half the inheritance — all presented as “divine law.” But when I studied them, I realized these are rules from 7th-century ignorant and barbaric Arabian society that cannot be applied in 21st-century India.

Women being given half the value in testimony, the punishment of death for apostasy (leaving Islam), and the concept of Jihad — all of this terrified me. Millions of ex-Muslims around the world are forced to live in hiding because Sharia does not allow free thinking. Demanding Sharia in a secular country like India is not only unconstitutional but also a threat to the nation’s unity.

Why is UCC Necessary?

The Indian Constitution grants equal rights to everyone. The Uniform Civil Code is part of that vision. One law for Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Christians — everyone. Why should only Muslim Personal Law get exemptions? Triple talaq has been banned, but polygamy is still legal. This is injustice against women.

Look at the condition of women in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan — wherever Sharia is implemented. Education, freedom, and dignity are all severely restricted. Praising the Pakistan model while living in India means you do not accept this country’s pluralism and democracy.

An Ex-Muslim’s Appeal

Thousands of people like me who have left Islam know that true freedom is only possible without Sharia. To leaders like Sana Malik, I say: Think about the future of your own daughters. Do you want them to wait for a second wife in the name of the Quran? Or live in constant fear of talaq?

India is a Hindu-majority country, but it is secular. Everyone has the freedom to practice their religion here, but the law must be the same for all. Those demanding Sharia should remember: “India will run on the Constitution, not on the Quran or Sharia.

Jai Hind.
