The Mystery of Muhammad’s Hatred for Dogs

The Mystery of Muhammad’s Hatred for Dogs

Dogs unfortunately became scapegoats. This all began when the pagans of Mecca posed three questions to test Muhammad’s prophethood. But Muhammad could not provide answers for the next 15 days. Then he made an excuse that Gabriel could not come with the answers due to the presence of a puppy in his house.

Imam Suyuti recorded this tradition in the commentary on verse 18:23: The Quraysh said to Muhammad, “You have turned away from our religion and that of our forefathers. Where did you get this new religion from?” Muhammad replied, “It is from Rahman.” The Quraysh responded, “We only know Rahman from Yemen”—meaning Musaylimah the Liar, who emerged as a false prophet during Muhammad’s time. Then the Quraysh wrote to the Jews that a man among them had claimed prophethood. The Jews suggested three questions: about the Companions of the Cave, Dhul-Qarnayn, and the spirit. If he could answer, Rahman is Allah; otherwise, the one from Yemen.

The Quraysh, pleased, came to Muhammad and asked the questions. Muhammad said, “Come tomorrow.” But he forgot to say “Insha’Allah.” Gabriel arrived after 15 days. Muhammad complained that he did not get the answers. Gabriel said, “Do you not know that we do not enter a house with a dog or a picture? There was a puppy in your house.” Then the verse was revealed: “And never say of anything, ‘Indeed, I will do that tomorrow,’ except [when adding], ‘If Allah wills.’” (Quran 18:23-24)

Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 3227: Gabriel had promised but did not come. Later he said, “We angels do not enter a house with a picture or a dog.”

The truth was:

  1. Muhammad neither knew the answers to the questions nor had any contact with Allah or an angel.
  2. He gathered information from others over 15 days.
  3. Then he made the excuse that he forgot “Insha’Allah” and the puppy stopped Gabriel.

Questions on this excuse:

  • During those 15 days, Muhammad went outside to the mosque and prayed—why didn’t Gabriel come there?
  • How could a small puppy affect Gabriel’s purity?
  • Why couldn’t Muhammad’s own purity overcome the puppy?
  • The Kiraman Katibin angels sit on every person’s shoulders—does a dog drive them away too?
  • If dogs are impure, why did the Companions of the Cave keep one with them?

In short, Muhammad shifted the blame for his failure onto the puppy.

Muhammad’s Allah Did Not Understand Dogs’ Panting

After the test incident, Muhammad further defamed dogs. Quran 7:176: “His example is like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants.”

This verse uses a dog’s panting as an example of rejecting Allah’s signs. But panting is a dog’s natural way to cool its body, just as humans sweat. Is sweating an example of rejecting a message? This comparison is absurd and wrong. Such an analogy is not expected from an All-Knowing, All-Wise Allah.

Order to Kill All Dogs in Medina

Upon arriving in Medina:

  • Muhammad declared dogs impure; keeping them in the house invalidates prayer.
  • But Bedouins kept dogs for livestock guarding. There were stray dogs in Medina.
  • The Jews knew Muhammad had used the puppy excuse. Muslims from the Aus and Khazraj tribes kept dogs near them.

Muhammad got angry that people ignored his orders. Result: Command to kill all dogs in Medina.

Hints of Human Drama in the Orders to Kill Dogs

The Sharia ruling on dogs changed in four stages:

  1. First Stage: Kill all dogs.
  2. Second Stage: People protested, so hunting and livestock dogs were spared; kill the rest.
  3. Third Stage: More uproar, so kill only black dogs—they are devils.
  4. Fourth Stage: Protests over black dogs too, so kill only jet-black dogs with two white spots over the eyes.

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1572: “Kill all dogs… even the dog of a woman coming from the desert was killed.”

Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith 2845: “Dogs are a community; I would order all killed, but kill only the pure black one.”

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 510a: “The black dog is a devil.”

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1572: “Only the jet-black dog with two spots over the eyes is a devil.”

This is a contradiction: If the devil is only in one specific black dog, why were other innocent dogs killed initially?

Divine revelation should not involve trial-and-error. Alcohol rulings gradually became stricter—matching human psychology. But dog rulings went from strict to lenient—due to people’s anger.

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1573a: “Ordered killing dogs, then said: What trouble do they cause people? Then spared hunting and guarding dogs.”

Divine revelation does not change due to human anger.

Human Drama in Revelation (Part 2: Influence of Superstition)

In the world, black cats are considered bad luck. Muslims call this ignorance. But Muhammad himself was influenced by Arab Jahiliyyah superstitions.

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1967: Muhammad ordered a ram with black legs, black belly, and black circles around the eyes for sacrifice.

Muhammad extended black color superstition to dogs—black dog is a devil. Prayer breaks, angels do not enter the house.

Dear Muslims, look at this black dog—is it a devil or a child’s loyal friend? Awaken your humanity. Muhammad’s orders are still in the books—will you implement them today?

Suspicious Fabrication: Separating the Puppy Excuse from Gabriel’s Delay

Muslims claim the puppy incident did not happen during Mecca’s test but in Medina. They present Aisha’s tradition:

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2104a: Gabriel promised but did not come. Muhammad threw his staff and asked. Aisha said there was a puppy. Gabriel said, “We do not enter where there is a dog or picture.”

Response: Gabriel stopped for 15 days by a puppy? This excuse is absurd. Later Muslims fabricated to separate this from Mecca’s failure.

Aisha’s own second tradition creates contradiction:

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2106f: Aisha said, “I did not see it myself, but heard Muhammad tore a curtain.”

Both traditions are 180 degrees opposite. Either the first is fake, or the second, or both. Purpose: Show Muhammad’s 15-day failure separate from the puppy.

Second Apologetic Excuse: Traditions of Ali and Maimuna Prove the Incident Happened in Medina

Musnad Ahmad, Hadith 845 (from Ali): “I went to Muhammad every morning. One night Gabriel came, said: Dog, picture, or junub prevents entry. It was Hasan’s puppy.”

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2105 (from Maimuna): Gabriel promised but did not come. There was a puppy.

Response: These traditions do not prove the apologists’ claim but expose the Hadith fabrication factory. All three (Aisha, Ali, Maimuna) describe the same incident—one event cannot happen with three people at once. This is proof of fabrication to hide the real story.

Conclusion

  • Dogs became scapegoats for Muhammad’s 15-day failure.
  • For 1400 years, they have been victims of hatred.
  • Even today, 1.5 billion people hate dogs because of Muhammad/Allah.

Even if we assume the puppy incident is separate, orders to kill dogs are filled with cruelty, superstition, and trial-and-error—not revelation from an All-Knowing Allah. Calling a black dog a devil goes against human compassion.

This is not divine revelation but human drama.
