Namaste friends,
I am an Ex-Muslim. From childhood, I prayed Namaz, heard praises of the Prophet, and grew up believing Islam to be the ultimate truth. But as I read the Quran with translations, studied the Hadiths, and started asking questions, the cobwebs in my mind began to clear. Today, I say it openly — Islam does not tolerate questions and criticism. Anyone who asks questions is labeled a blasphemer, apostate (murtad), or kafir, and attempts are made to eliminate them.
The Controversy over Nazia Elahi Khan’s Statement
A recent example is activist Nazia Elahi Khan. In June 2026, Nazia spoke in a podcast (with Divya Singh) about Prophet Muhammad and Hazrat Ayesha’s marriage. She mentioned Ayesha’s young age (married at 6, consummated at 9) and raised questions by comparing it to modern cases of underage rape and exploitation. Her statement has sparked a huge uproar across the country by Muslims.
While many Muslim scholars and Maulvis have also read these Hadiths that mention the marriage and age of Muhammad and Ayesha, there was no such outrage then.
According to news reports, after this statement, two Muslim youths made separate videos threatening Nazia. One “Muslim journalist” named Salman abused her by calling her a “whore” and said that Nazia’s actions made him want to kill her. The other, Abdul from Aurangabad, openly declared — “I will slit your throat, even if I have to go to jail. Who are you to speak against our Prophet?”
Nazia herself shared these videos and tagged the police and administration. In addition, she is receiving gang rape and death threats from Pakistan and Bangladesh as well.
What Happened and Why?
The statement was old, but it suddenly went viral. Muslim organizations took to the streets in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, Kashmir, and elsewhere. Groups like Raza Academy and AIMIM demanded FIRs. Slogans of “Sar Tan Se Juda” were raised at many places. Protests were held in Bhiwandi, Malegaon, etc. Processions were taken out outside various mosques, effigies of Nazia Elahi Khan were burnt, and attempts are being made to file FIRs from different states.
This was not ordinary anger. Reports indicate it was a coordinated show of strength. Nazia, who is associated with the BJP Minority Morcha and has now turned towards Sanatan ideology, is being targeted to silence her.
My Views as an Ex-Muslim
Having left Islam myself, I understand this danger very well. I have heard the phrase “The punishment for apostasy is death” countless times. What Nazia said was based on Hadiths. The debate over Ayesha’s age has been going on for centuries. But instead of debate, what comes is threats, abuse, and FIRs.
This is not a new tactic by Muslims. Whenever any non-Muslim or Ex-Muslim has questioned or criticized the life of Muhammad, they have been accused of blasphemy against the Prophet, “Sar Tan Se Juda” slogans have been raised, and similar uproar created. In many cases, there have been life-threatening attacks, and many people have lost their lives.
Questions on My Mind:
– If criticizing the Prophet is “blasphemy,” then why does the Quran criticize other religions?
– Insults against Hindu gods and goddesses happen daily, so why are the streets not shut down?
– Is Islam so weak that it gets scared by a woman’s statement?
– Calling women “whores” and threatening to slit throats — is this your “religion of peace”?
Women like Nazia are specially targeted because they have strongly criticized the subjugation of women in Islam (triple talaq, polygamy, burqa, etc.).
In Conclusion
Nazia Elahi Khan must be provided immediate security. Whether one likes her statement or not, the right to criticism is the soul of democracy. The police must take strict action against people like Salman and Abdul.
As an Ex-Muslim, I can say without fear — until there is reform in Islam and criticism is tolerated, such controversies, threats, and violence will continue. The Muslim community needs to think: Is “Sar Tan Se Juda” the only answer to every question?
Nazia sister, you are not alone. Lakhs of Ex-Muslims and Sanatanis stand with you. The battle for truth will continue.
Satyameva Jayate.
